Mr. President...
Strong supporter. Not always pleased with things, but that's the way it goes. Please do not abandon Iraq. Winning the war is more important than whether a Republican can hold the White House in 2008. I want Rudy Giuliani to be the next President, but I don't want to lose to al-Qaeda in Iraq.
I don't care if there are Republican senators "deserting" you. All they care about is holding their own jobs in the Senate. We should be the party that values victory in the war over victory in elections. The Democrats have not done that, and it saddens me to see some Republicans starting to think the same way.
You won't get credit for anything short of a victory. A premature pullout will ruin any credibility you have with folks like me. Your opponents will celebrate your demise and dance on your political grave. So if improving GOP chances in 2008 is in any way a motivating factor in considering a premature pullout, it won't work, so don't bother considering it.
We have to win. If the surge really is working, then don't cave in please. I was heartened by your July 4th remarks in West Virginia. I want to believe that you believe in what you said there.
